The Connect Downtown project team recently released the State of Downtown Mobility Report examining the state of transportation in Downtown Nashville.
Connect Downtown is a joint effort of The Nashville Department of Transportation & Multimodal Infrastructure, the Tennessee Department of Transportation, the Nashville Downtown Partnership, and WeGo Public Transit. The project used data analysis and public input to discover who lives, works, and visits downtown, as well as the mobility systems that support them.
A total of 14,000 people live in Downtown Nashville, and 63,000 people commute daily for work.
In downtown, 10 miles of sidewalks are in poor condition, and there are 45,000 off-street parking spaces and 2,000 on-street parking meters.
WeGo, the agency offering transit services to Davidson County, transported 8.8 million passengers to, from, and within downtown in 2019.
Last year, 5 percent of traffic accidents downtown resulted in severe injuries or fatalities.
In 2021, Nashvillians spent an average of 43 hours in traffic congestion.
The report also includes eight focus areas for Connect Downtown, such as prioritizing travel modes and better managing events and visitor traffic.
Connect Downtown is developing a plan to fund and implement projects and programs that address mobility needs.
