Nikola Corp. recently announced it will begin selling green 18-wheelers in Colorado through Wagner Equipment Co. in 2023.
The fully battery-electric Nikola Tre truck offers a range of up to 350 miles.
Wagner also will sell Nikola Tre hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles.
“Nikola applauds the state of Colorado for working to better understand the challenges and opportunities associated with transitioning fleets to zero-emissions,” said Elizabeth Fretheim, Nikola global head of sustainability and social responsibility. “As a company dedicated to the advancement of innovative zero-emissions truck solutions and the energy infrastructure required to make this feasible, we especially appreciate the focus on and recognition of the differences in the path forward for passenger cars versus medium- and heavy-duty trucks through the development of a specific Clean Truck Strategy.”
Colorado’s Clean Truck Strategy aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from medium- and heavy-duty vehicles by at least 45 percent by 2050.
While medium- and heavy-duty vehicles represent less than 10 percent of vehicles on the road, they are responsible for 22 percent of on-road transportation greenhouse gas emissions.
On Tuesday, Nikola Corp displayed a Nikola Tre truck at the Colorado State Capitol. Company representatives were joined by state officials and representatives from Wagner Equipment and the Colorado Motor Carriers Association.
