Members of the Delaware Democratic Congressional Delegation, including U.S. Sens. Tom Carper and Chris Coons, and U.S. Rep. Lisa Blunt Rochester, joined Delaware Gov. John Carney Tuesday to tout Delaware’s wins in the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act with U.S. Department of Transportation Deputy Secretary Polly Trottenberg.
During a press conference on Tuesday, the leaders discussed how Delaware will benefit from the Infrastructure bill signed into law by President Joe Biden earlier this month.
“I’m really proud of the hard work we put into getting this bipartisan infrastructure legislation across the finish line and what it is going to mean for Delaware,” Carper said. “Our bill is going to put a lot of Delawareans to work in good-paying jobs modernizing our roads and bridges for twenty-first-century challenges like climate change. It’s also going to deliver a brighter future for families across the First State by investing in clean water, high-speed internet, electric vehicle chargers, and more connected communities.”
As part of the law, Delaware will receive $1.2 billion for highways and $225 for bridge repairs and replacements. Additionally, the state will receive an estimated $18 million to expand the state’s electric vehicle infrastructure, roughly $220 million to improve the public transportation system, $100 million to invest in high-speed internet, and $355 million to upgrade water systems.
“Thanks to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law that President Biden signed last week, we will be able to repair the transportation system Americans rely on today – and build a transportation system that empowers Americans to thrive for generations to come,” Trottenberg said.
