Port of Seattle announced last week the opening of modernized and expanded North Satellite of the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.
“The updated North Satellite is going to come as a surprise to long-time travelers,” Ryan Calkins, Port of Seattle Commissioner, said. “What was once dimly lit with low ceilings and few options is now bright, spacious, and welcoming. It’s so nice that you might arrive a little early to enjoy the art, food, and other amenities. And the whole experience celebrates the Pacific Northwest and our spectacular surroundings.”
Two gates opened at the end of May, and 10 more gates will open by the end of this month.
This month, passengers also will have access to dining and retail options, art installations, a stage for live performances, and open seating with views of the airfield.
Other upgrades include 100 percent built-in seat chargers, enhanced Wi-Fi, a fully integrated pet relief area, adult changing tables, tripling the amount of dining and retail offerings, nearly doubling the square footage of operational space, and increasing the facility’s capacity from 12 to 20 gates.
Built in 1973, this is North Satellite’s first major upgrade. The project cost the port an estimated $710 million, while Alaska Airlines contributed approximately $41 million.
The Port and Alaska Airlines opened Phase I of the project in 2019 with eight gates and a flagship Alaska Airlines lounge.
