A ribbon-cutting ceremony was recently held for the completion of New York’s Albany International Airport Transportation Corridor.

The corridor opened to motorists on Tuesday.

The project, which is part of a $72.1 million investment at the airport, reconfigured Exits 4 and 5 to provide more direct access to the Northway and local roads and completed a northbound Exit 3 flyover ramp.

Exit 4 northbound was not reconfigured, but southbound now provides greater access to Wolf Road.

A direct on-ramp from Route 155 was added at Exit 5 to the southbound Northway. The northbound on-ramp was extended to Exit 5 for Route 155. The flyover travels on a new bridge over the Northway for northbound traffic. A new off-ramp connects a flyover ramp for southbound traffic. A new southbound Exit 3 and a ramp connecting Albany Shaker Road to I-87 South previously were open to traffic.

Approximately 102,000 vehicles travel over Albany-Shaker Road, and 40,000 vehicles use Exit 4 at the Northway daily.

As part of the project, a noise wall and drainage and curbing were installed, and Albany Shaker Road was widened to add turn lanes between Wolf Road and Meeting House Road.

The project was completed under budget and a year ahead of schedule.
