The North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) recently completed the $2.4 million Central Avenue project in downtown Valley City.
Central Avenue between Main Street and 12th Street was redone to create sidewalks compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act. The project also updated lighting, do preventative maintenance work, and other aesthetic improvements.
Improvements will serve the community and businesses and will create a more pedestrian-friendly downtown, NDDOT Director Bill Panos said.
“The improvements completed to downtown Valley City not only improve access to area businesses but updates the corridor making downtown a destination for residents and visitors to our beautiful city,” Valley City Mayor Dave Carlsrud said.
The project was part of the Urban Grant Program, and NDDOT held two public input meetings. NDDOT worked with Valley City officials to develop the design for the project.
Construction began in the spring and recently concluded.
NDDOT awarded four projects through the Urban Grant Program in 2018.
NDDOT, Valley City representatives, representatives from the offices of Sens. John Hoeven (R-ND) and Kevin Cramer (R-ND), and state and local officials met Wednesday to celebrate the project’s completion.
Further improvements are planned for Central Avenue to the Sheyenne River next year as well as
a portion of Main Street.
