The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) awarded $40.5 million to local agencies this week to assist transportation projects focused on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and the effects of climate change.
Examples of funding are the Placer-Sacramento Mobility Action Plan, which gained $648,932; Phase 1 of the Bicycle Superhighway for $800,000; the Boggs Tract Sustainable Community Plan with $285,548; and a Fire Vulnerability Assessment and Emergency Evacuation Preparedness Plan for Mendocino County, at $247,884; among others.
“From fire preparedness to transit improvements to paving the way for a bicycle superhighway, planning is a crucial first step in creating projects that can help us prepare for the effects of climate change,” Caltrans Director Laurie Berman said.
In all, the funding will see nearly $31 million in Sustainable Communities grants, $6 million in Adaptation Planning grants, and $3.8 million for Strategic Partnership grants.
