March marked a banner month for the South Carolina Ports Authority (SCPA), setting a new record for its March container volumes and reaching the second strongest month in the organization’s history.
March 2019 represented an 11 percent growth over March 2018 due to 214,123 twenty-foot equivalent container units being moved over the course of the month. Another 120,717 pier containers were also handled, marking it the second highest month in the Port’s history for total boxes moved.
“The record volumes achieved last month reflect a very positive end to our third quarter of the fiscal year,” Jim Newsome, SCPA president and CEO, said. “SCPA also saw the highest month of export loads since the fiscal year began in July 2018, with 42,524 export loads handled. The Port is well-positioned as it heads into the fourth quarter.”
The SCPA’s Inland Port Greer also, on an individual level, set new monthly records. It saw 14,522 rail lifts and handled a record number of gate moves over the course of March.
