A total of 106 transportation infrastructure projects in 40 Pennsylvania counties have received $54.7 million in funding through the Multimodal Transportation Fund (MTF).

The projects were approved at Tuesday’s Commonwealth Financing Authority. The authority’s MTF is a separate fund from the multimodal program administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

“Infrastructure is one of the most crucial components of Pennsylvania’s economic well-being,” Gov. Tom Wolf said. “We can’t have a robust economy without modern-day infrastructure. These projects will improve residents’ quality of life and boost Pennsylvania businesses and communities.”

The MTF was found in 2013 with the goal of ensuring the availability of safe and reliable transportation access in communities throughout the state.

The program funds a variety of improvement projects including air transport, public transportation, rail, roads, traffic safety and walking and bike trails.

Projects were awarded between $90,000 and $2.3 million.

The largest projects include $2.3 million to the Philadelphia Regional Port Authority in Philadelphia for Tioga Marine Terminal Crane upgrades, $2.08 million to Keystone River Crossing Elm in Montgomery County for the SORA West Gateway Intermodal Improvements and $1.5 million to the Schuylkill River Development Corp. in Philadelphia for the Schuylkill Banks Christian to Crescent Construction, North end.
