The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is seeking candidates to serve on its Drone Advisory Committee (DAC), according to an official notice published earlier this month in the Federal Register.
The DAC is a federal advisory committee that provides the FAA with advice on unmanned aircraft (UAS) integration issues into the National Airspace System. The committee is comprised of CEO/COO-level executives from research and academia, technology, retail, and the UAS industry.
Members are tasked with identifying UAS challenges and solutions.
“Candidates must be in good public standing and currently serve as a member of their organization’s core senior leadership team with the ability to make UAS related decisions,” the notice said. “In rare circumstances, membership will be granted to uniquely qualified individuals who do not meet this latter requirement.”
Interested candidates must submit applications by Jan. 9. The application package must include a resume, a biography, three letters of recommendation and a statement on how the candidate will help DAC.
The FAA notice does not affect current committee members. Each member serves for up to two years, and the committee has a maximum of 35 members.
A minimum of three meetings are held annually, and members serve without compensation.
The new members will be selected by U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao.
