Power management company Eaton recently joined U.S. officials and industry leaders in support of the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Cleaner Trucks Initiative.
The initiative establishes updated nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions standards for medium- and heavy-duty commercial vehicles through open and collaborative discussion among stakeholders. The EPA announced the initiative last week.
Eaton has a history of assisting its customers with complying with global emission regulations. It helps customers manage mechanical, hydraulic and electrical power efficiently, safely and sustainably.
“We are encouraged by today’s announcement, which is a next step toward establishing long-term national goals and regulatory certainty,” Mihai Dorobantu, director of Technology Planning and Government Affairs for Eaton’s Vehicle Group, said. “We are looking forward to working with our OEM customers, industry partners, the EPA and other stakeholders to provide the market with clean and fuel-efficient technology options.”
Eaton’s engine air management product portfolio includes technologies that provide clean and efficient combustion.
In 2025, heavy-duty trucks will cause one-third of NOx emissions from transportation, according to the EPA.
Updating standards will help areas meet National Ambient Air Quality Standards for ozone and particulate matter.
The updated standards also will reduce the regulatory burden through smarter program design.
Standards were last updated in 2001.
