The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) recently selected James J. Tymon as executive director during the annual board of directors meeting.
Tymon joined AASHTO in 2013 and serves as chief operating officer and director of policy and management. He is in charge of AASHTO’s budget, administration and internal operations, and works closely with the board of directors to develop policy.
“Jim Tymon has a tremendous amount of transportation policy experience at the highest levels in Washington,” John Schroer, AASHTO president, said. “In our estimation, he is the most capable from among a diverse and highly qualified group of candidates to lead AASHTO and its talented staff in the coming years. We think we got the best person in the country to run AASHTO.”
Prior to joining AASHTO, Tymon served as staff director of the Highways and Transit Subcommittee of the U.S. House of Representatives Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, as senior advisor to Rep. Bill Shuster (R-PA), and as program examiner with the Office of Management and Budget.
He has a bachelor’s degree in economics and political science and a Master of Arts degree in public policy from the University of Delaware.
Tymon replaces Frederick “Bud” Wright who will retire Dec. 31.
