Five aviation and aerospace industry organizations recently announced they would be conducting a global study to identify and promote ways the industry can better recruit and advance women into leadership roles.
Less than 25 percent of the American aerospace employees are women with very few in leadership roles.
The goal of the study, “Soaring Through the Glass Ceiling,” is to identify the causes of barriers to advancement for women.
The organizations will survey and conduct interviews with women, human resources professionals, organization executives, and education leaders. They also will review case studies and literature on the advancement of women and write a new case study on success stories within the industry.
Practices and policies that have been successful in promoting gender diversity in leadership will be highlighted.
Another goal of the study is to create and document best practices for the industry to consider at educational institutions and specific companies as well as the overall industry level.
The organizations conducting the joint study are the Aerospace Industries Association, Airports Council International-World, the International Air Transport Association, the International Aviation Womens Association, and management consulting firm Korn Ferry.
Results will be released in the second quarter of 2019 and shared through the internet, publications, and industry events.
