The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) recently completed upgrades to MTA Metro-North Railroad maintenance and operations hub in Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y.

Upgrades include opening a two story, 400,000 square-foot-facility to maintain train reliability and meet maintenance needs. The building contains repair and support shops equipped with four pedestal tracks, a dozen car-hoists, and multiple door level and roof level platforms.

“Metro-North service has never been better – 99 percent on time performance so far this year,” MTA Chairman and CEO Janno Lieber said. “A big reason is the way our car fleet is being maintained and repaired here at the Harmon Shop – a world class facility second to none.”

The project was completed in five phases over 23 years.

During phase 1, crews built service tracks, an employee overpass, and provided wayside power to the yard.

During phase 2, crews built the Communication and Maintenance of Way buildings and modified to the Material Distribution Center.

During phase 3, crews built a new coach shop and locomotive shop, and a new wheel true facility.

During phase 4, crews made repairs on multi-purpose building to house shops.

During phase 5, crews completed the replacement of the multi-purpose building in two stages, constructing multiple shops.
